If you are thinking about learning to ride, or if you have just started, a week in the sun, riding three or four hours every day, can give you a real boost.
When you are starting, practice, practice, practice is the most important thing. But if you're limited to an hour or a couple of hours a week, particularly in the rain and cold, learning can be a very long and uninspiring task. Learning in the sun, on willing schoolmaster horses, with UK instructors, is a much more attractive and practical proposition.
Pinetrees and QPA on Portugal's Algarve coast are ideal places to learn. Both are small and personal and able to offer riding programmes that are tailored for you, for the price of a normal riding holiday.
You will stay close to the horses and have the chance to join in with grooming and learning a little about handling horses if you wish. Your lessons will be tailored to your level of ability, often with video to help you understand your position in the saddle.
But your instructors won't forget you are on holiday, so there will be short hacks out into the local countryside too and lots of opportunity for you to relax and enjoy local restaurants, beaches and activities.
If you think this might be the option for you, take a look at Pinetrees (Portugal 1 above) and QPA (Portugal 2 above), or give me a call if you have any questions.
