Based at a 16th century hacienda in the countryside, outside the beautiful
Andalucian city of Seville the Epona centre, which has just celebrated
its 21st anniversary, is one of our most popular holidays with many guests
returning year after year. It is a warm, friendly, family run centre with
lots of riding and close contact with lots of beautiful horses. Surrounded
by olive trees, the hacienda is home to around 60 horses and ponies and
a dozen or so dogs and cats. This is somewhere you can relax for a week
and let someone else take care of you and organise all your activities.
It is a substantial centre with 8-10 riders during popular weeks and often
two or three non-riding guests, living in traditional rooms within the
hacienda building and in rooms around the courtyard. The centre combines
a high level of training and equestrian facilities with a programme of
enjoyable activities, including a beach ride, a visit to the Royal Andalucian
Equestrian School, a visit to a Flamenco Show and meals in local restaurants.
The centre is run by Jane and Fernando Garcia and their daughters Caty and Vivi. All are experienced riders and teachers and a really friendly, happy family. Fernando leads the trail-rides on most days, while Caty conducts most of the training sessions. Vivi is currently one of the handful of girls selected to train at the Royal School in Jerez. Jane manages the centre together with Fernando as well as running a greyhound rescue at the centre. (Be careful she doesn’t send you home with some four-pawed excess baggage!)
This was the best holiday ever! I had lost all my confidence with horses prior to the holiday and also had never been able to canter before. The holiday restored my confidence completely and they even taught me to canter which I didn't think was possible! I miss everyone at Epona and all the horses who were just fantastic! I will definitely be back next year and the year after that and the year after that and ...
Having been to Epona on two previous occasions, I was delighted to find this holiday was all that I remembered from my previous visits. A truly delightful week and I congratulate everyone involved for their tireless dedication to the horses and guests.
